TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Tropical Storm Ida hit the gulf coast of Alabama early Tuesday morning at 4:40 AM Arizona time.
The eye of the storm made landfall on Dauphin Island, just south of Mobile Bay.
The white sand, baby power soft beaches in this area are some of the most popular in the southeastern United States.
The slow moving storm will die out and pour down over the southeast the rest of this week, raising the flood risk on inland waterways while high waves and wind continue to cause problems along the coast.
About 30% of gulf coast oil production was shut down.
The storm damaged an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico so severely that it was at risk of collapse and the Coast Guard had to rescue two workers by helicopter.
Ida is a late season storm.
The Hurricane Season for the Atlantic Basin ends on November 30th.
